Holidays and Rehab

Hoping you all had a wonderful Christmas! I have not been able to spend much time catching up on reading blogs. This pain med I am on either makes me so sleepy, or does not really control the pain well enough to concentrate for long. Just the way my body reacts to it. I am doing better but rehab is going to take a l-o-n-g time. Izzy is being very patient and careful around me, and comes to lay down with me when I need to use the leg exerciser for 2 hrs at a time. Could not ask for a more faithful companion! Back to the dr this Wed. to have staples removed and to see what he has to say about how I am doing.

My daughter posted to my painting blog the winners of the Christmas Give-Away. I ended up giving 3 away because, well, just because I felt like it :) I wish I could have done several more to give. Looking forward to the time when the aches and pain let up long enough to let me paint again. I could read, but I fall asleep from the meds. So I knit, and then make like a frog and "rip-it" out my mistakes from falling asleep knitting .....ah, such is life.

Meanwhile, I am thinking about having the "house" batteries removed from the rv and brought into the house until I am well enough to get back on the road. I read somewhere that a cold snap could ruin them, and I just replaced them when I was back in Pennsylvania last fall. Do any of you others do this if you will not be using your rv for the winter??

I'll be spending a quiet New Year's Eve. We used to get together at church with lots of friends, games, and good food, and wait for the New Year to begin. Haha, I will have a hard time staying awake past 9 pm this year! I will probably watch a good movie or two, and be knitting on another project. A new year is a chance for a fresh new beginning. I don't make resolutions but I do give thought and contemplate what changes I will try to implement in the coming year. Are some of you looking forward to changes, big or small? Maybe that will be the topic of my next post....

You all enjoy your celebrations, be careful, and if you do have something to drink, please don't drive.

  2. Sunny, it's so nice to see you blogged again! I've been thinking about you a lot lately & wondered how your recovery is coming along. I suggested prevacid to you on one of your replies, but not sure if you saw that. So I'd suggest that or something to calm your tummy down while taking the pain meds. I had to use it too with my meds. It helps tremendously! I hope the worst is behind you & that you soon will recover with minimal pain soon.
Oh & I've heard that others take out their batteries too. I guess the secret is to check them from time to time to see if they need recharging or not.

  3. Glad you're on the mend, tho' it probably seems so slow.
I'm like you...don't make resolutions, but work on new projects that needed accomplished, especially during the cold winter months when I'm having to stay inside anyway.
    Happy New Year to you!

  8. Happy to see a post. I check everyday. The pain will end soon and you will be back to doing your thing without the pain you had before the surgery or the pain from the surgery. Believe me it won't take to long it just seems like it. Keep plugging away. Know that there are lots of us out here who went through it and are right here for you.
    Happy New Year!

  9. Good to hear from you, Sunny. I've been rather out of pocket with family here. And two of my kids have been here for a couple of weeks now. We've "christmased" til we can't christmas anymore!

I'm glad your surgery is over, and pray that your recovery will be quick and complete. Get out your artbooks and re-read them. I do that from time to time and always am reminded of something that I'd forgotten. I hope you get a good report from the Dr when you go!

In the meantime, stay comfortable, eat well, lots of liquids, take your meds, do your exercises, and GET WELL! Keeping you in thought and prayer, Vickie.

  10. Hi Sunny, it's good to hear from you again though sorry about the slow progress. I'm reminded of something a friend told me years ago about it "being OK, NOT to be OK." Sometimes I have to just accept that that's how it is for awhile...but that it's ok!

That and Budah's First Noble truth have helped me over bumps in life: That is simply that "Life is hard. Once you realize that, it immediately becomes easier." I'm not inclined to follow Budah at all but do recognize truth when I hear it and that one seems to be right on the money.

As for the batteries, unless you can find a friend to remove them for you, I sure wouldn't risk doing it yourself so soon after your surgery. Much easier replacing them than any injury you MIGHT cause trying to do it yourself.

As for pain killers, my mom lived to be 101 and went through many aches and pains including two back surgeries and swore by Tylenol. These days I think they have new and improved pills but she took Tylenol right straight to the end last November. The rapid release is what I keep on hand for it works withing a few minutes for immediate relief although I now have to start having buffered asprin on hand for heart I'm told.

Meanwhile, I think you're dealing with a lot of issues other than just your surgery this holiday. It takes time to get back on track, but you will. Praying for God's love and healing for you.
