Paducah, Historic Section and River Art Wall

This is the rest of the pictures from my local tour of Paducah the other day. i was disappointed to find out that the Truck driving school where I had taken my training had shut their doors permanently a couple years ago. I would have liked to stopped in and talked to the instructors. However, maybe they had just retired and had no one to take it over.

Anyway I went down a couple familiar streets that I had seen at the time. The old section of town with its small shops looked somewhat the same, bringing a smile to my face. They were already putting out Christmas wares. A little early for my taste, but thats the way they do things now

I would have loved to have the time to look around this antique store! I can just imagine the treasures they would have inside!

I loved the structure of this warehouse type building turned museum. I wondered if it might have been a train station at one time, as the train museum was close by,

and an old locomotive was just up the street and around the corner. I saw one young girl and her mother exiting the engine. Again, I just didn't have the time but to snap a few picutres. Thats the way it is when you have fur-babies , and one in training, waiting for you to get back to camp 20+ miles away. So I went on snapping pictures along the river wall.

And there is the train up ahead.

I can remember living by the railroad tracks growing up and massive engines like this one would come roaring past the house!

After seeing the train I had to circle back and get pictures of the rest of the river wall.

To see this wall completed with quaint streetlights and all, made my delayed stop in the area worthwhile. I'm glad I didn't miss being able to visit.

That is one of my goals on this trip; to slow down, take each day at a time , and enjoy the journey!!

Spa day for Izzy and a Local Tour for Me

My eye exam went well and I now have answers to my double vision problems. I have been diagnosed with Fuch's Dystrophy, which is a problem with the corneas, but can be remedied with simple surgery, if the condition worsens. However, for now they have given me a new glasses prescription, which I have ordered and should be done by Friday or at the latest Monday. I will be able to continue my trip after that.

Meanwhile here are some pictures of what I have been busy with. Miss Izzy had her spa bath in the kitchen sink. She is so good, just standing in there and letting me bathe her.

Of course Tuesday was a very memorable day; the nation's choice of our next president. I did not watch TV myself until late that evening. I just kept texting my daughters to find out when anything new happened  :)  Then after falling asleep, I woke about 2:30 am with the TV still on, and saw the result at that time.  I was glad to see it end and will be praying for wisdom and strength for our new president and for our nation as a whole.
On Wednesday I went into Paducah after a few things I needed and while there I visited the National Quilt Museum. The quilts were exquisite and very artistic. I was drawn to the ones that were nature scenes and western themes. Taking pictures inside the building was prohibited, however I took a few outside of the building and surrounding grounds. This was the back of the building where there was a small parking lot.

Paducah Kentucky

Although I'm not actually in Paducah, but at a campground a few miles away, waiting on an eye exam on Monday and hopefully better glasses shortly thereafter!

Meanwhile I am camped at Cypress Lake campground which is more like a trailer park than what I am used to. But I am here getting things taken care of and meeting up with friends. It makes the time go a little faster and they have been more than gracious helping me with some things that needed taken care of on my new motorhome. Actually, the husband was a camp host at the very first place I camped in my first RV after my husband passed, and had shown me the ropes there.
So good to see them again!

The campgrounds here has nice shower rooms and laundry, a game room with pool table, and campsites with full hook-ups and fire rings. Firewood is available. There are some pull-throughs where I am parked in the back row, closer to the lake.

I made a quick trip into Paducah today as I had lost my seam ripper and I am adjusting the length of the curtains I bought to cover the kitchen area window. I also could not resist getting this yarn I just happened to wander past in Hobby Lobby on my way to Wal-Mart ;-)

On another note, this would have been my husband's and my 38th wedding anniversary. He has been gone 5 years now, and I still miss him very much...... just doing what I feel led to do until I see him again.

I've Hit the Road!!

I finally was all packed (unless there's something I forgot, which most likely there is) and was able to leave out about 3 pm Sunday afternoon, Oct 23. The first few days I was quite busy getting used to driving a Class A, but then I settled in as it became much like driving the Volvo 770 semi back many years ago. I began to be at ease with it all. 

The biggest challenge however was getting Sasha used to all the different sights, sounds and smells associated with roadside rests, truck stops, and traffic. So many people, so many changing scenes, such loud noises coming from humongous shapes rolling on so many wheels!! And then of course the ground all around smelled different than back in her familiar yard..... however, by the time one week had passed she had settled right in to the routine. First out to pee, back in to eat, second out for further elimination and a training walk. sleep until about lunch-time. Oh such is the complex life of our furry friends!

Meanwhile on one of those days we took a side-trip to visit the boyhood home of Abraham Lincoln.

Practically everything they needed was supplied on the homestead.

Time to get back in the motorhome, as we still had a ways to go before night fall.

Playing Quicky Catch-up, Chapter 4

Saturday, Nov 1

The temperature had dropped and it was windy so I ran the heater all day. I thought I was being a wimp, till I saw a boy with a ski mask on, lol! Camp host, Jerry, got the handles off the rectangular basket I keep my movies and DVD's in, so it would fit properly in its place. This way I don't need to bring out one movie at a time to see if its the one I want to watch. I have been doing quite well with this organization project of mine. Need to fit a lot of stuff in small spaces.

I decided to take a break and do some painting. This was my 4th painting of Energy Lake.

I loved how the sun threw shadows of the trees on the ground while the leaves were falling.

Sunday was a rest day, I painted a little more and got stuff put away as we would be leaving in the morning. I mapped out my route, I would take I-24 east to Nashville, then I-65 south to I-20/I-59. We used to travel the 20/59 when driving truck, and I had always loved the route.

I got the Rav4 hooked up in the morning with no problem although it was on a slight incline. I made good time and drove to Tuscaloosa, AL before stopping for the night. I was only 3 hrs from Daughter #3 just north of Hattiesburg MS. My fridge was giving me fits again about not running consistently so I wanted to get there asap to get plugged into electric.

Playing Quicky Catch-up, Chapter 3

The next day I drove into Cadiz, stopped at McDonalds for a coffee and use their wifi, and then drove on to Hopkinsville W*M. I got everything on my list; a new battery wall clock, a set of plastic drawers for my knitting and sewing supplies, and a few plastic food containers. The drawers fit nicely under the pull-up-n-out table between the 2 chairs, and hold all my supplies. I use the table for my sewing machine, computer, or if I am painting.

I brought material with me to make new curtains for the coach. My mini blind wont stay up, keeps falling, so have the window behind the chairs temporarily covered with a flannel sheet. Looks bad I know, but does the job.

That night was down to 31*! My furnace and electric heater ran off and on all night. Almost time to head further south!

Playing Quicky Catch-up, Chapter 2

After getting some much-needed rest, I put a beef roast in the crock-pot. It was foggy that morning. I made a list of groceries needed and cleaned the windows on the toad, which I hadn't had time to do before leaving home. I took a short ride to Taylor Bay, stopped at the Hemitite Cemetary, where many earlier residents were buried, before the lakes were made and they were forced out of their homes. Some of the names on the ancient-looking graves seemed to be Indian names. I drove on to the wildlife observation area where I saw several deer grazing in the fields about 5 pm. It was a very peaceful time again at Energy Lake.

Arriving back at camp, there was a good supper waiting for us. The roast beef, coleslaw, and potato salad. Yummy!! I was beginning to regain my appetite.

Izzy was happy to be on the leash and taking walks with me again.

I wore her out and she slept like a baby! She took to being in the RV again like a duck to water and is very content. I am very happy to have her with me. She is great company, and I like it when it is just the two of us. Life takes on a certain simplicity, and we are very content.

Playing Quicky Catch-Up, Chapter 1

 

I will never, ever totally unpack my RV again.... EVER.

So long to get packed back up, I ended up throwing things in the back seat and rear of the toad just so I could get moving. I finally left PA about 1 pm on Oct 27th. I drove to Hubbard Ohio and stopped for the night at a truck stop between 2 trucks. They did not keep me awake. I slept like a log!

When I got up in the morning the gas for the fridge was not working. I had to get plugged into electric for the night so paid the price and spent the night at Elizabethtown Crossroads Campground. The owner there worked a bit with my fridge and got it working on gas again. He said it might be air in the lines from non-use. Hmmmm.... o-k I guess.

The next day I traveled to Bowling Green, thoroughly enjoying the exquisite colors nature had lavishly bestowed on this area of Kentucky this year! I decided to take an unplanned  detour and drove by the old home place and snapped a few photos. It was good to go there, as I was finally able to put closure to that part of my old life. I really had enjoyed the farm, but that is past, and I cannot go forward by looking back and second-guessing my decision to sell the place.

I met my friend Debbie, that day and we had lunch together. It was good to see each other again. We do keep in touch and she will always be a part of my life. Then I drove on over to Energy Lake where I got set up, took Izzy for a short walk, went to bed early, and crashed!

Painting with Friend

Last Saturday at the camp friend Debbie came over to paint with me. The weather was fantastic after settling down from the whiplash wind efects felt there from Hurricane Sandy. We had mostly sunshine and temps in the low 60's.

I did remember to grab my camera for some pictures!

It is neat to see the wyas different people, especially painters, interpret what they see, and how they express it. I can't wait to see Debbie's finished work as her style is totally different and very interesting.

We did a bit more, then drove into Cadiz for a wonderful supper at Reva's Diner. It turned out to be a very fun and relaxing day day! Thanks, Debbie for joining me!
