Hello ...... I have been busy dehydrating more food and today I even made yogurt in it the dehydrator. It keeps an even 115* temp, so it is practically no-fail. I put mine in canning jelly jars and top with plastic lids before I refridgerate. It is very smooth and not bitter at all.
I used a Greek yogurt as my culture.
I have been researching mushrooms I found in my front yard growing under a pine tree. I down-loaded "Mushrooming Without Fear" to my Kindle app from Amazon, as well as read through many mushroom ID sites on the web. This is definitely mushroom season here and the weather conditions have been perfect for it. I *think* they are field or horse mushrooms and probably safe to eat...... however, after I had picked them and even dehydrated a tray of them (and oh they smelled yummy as they dried!) I wondered if at this point in time I wanted really to take a chance on them when I was not 100% sure. I ended up throwing the whole boxful out........ I have a few more things I'd really like to do before I croak. No sense taking un-nessessary chances. I mean, if the only thing I can't eat is wild mushrooms, hey, its not all that bad!
I have also been spending more time with my son, as well as my daughters. I went to a family reunion on Saturday and got to visit with cousins I hadn't seen in so many years. Catching up on the families and reminscing about the old times as kids was fun and of course the food was great.

Hi Sunny! Wow, you made yogurt! That's cool. I haven't tried that yet, but would love to. I don't have a dehydrator tho. Think I'll start watching craigslist for that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd probably pass on the shrooms unless you know for sure. I guess mostly it's too hot for mushrooms to grown well for us and I don't have a cool dark place for them to grow either.
Hope your son is mending well, and just wanted to add too that your daughter's house is a lovely country home - I love her front porch!
Thar is funny about the mushrooms. Our garden frequently had morels and everyone said they were edible but I just had to leave them there to look at.
ReplyDeleteTinycamper's blog may help you with the mushrooms if you really want to know. She love mushrooms.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are getting to spend more time with your son and a family reunion is always fun.
Can't wait to hear about the RV.
I'M catching up with you tonight. I'd be afraid of the mushrooms too! Cool on the dehydrator though.
