Weather Forecasts....

....... are not always right. Say what? You already knew that??
Old man wind tried to trick me today. The rain came in ...which was expected. However the wind that came with it was not. My brother and I had been working with my awning a few days ago and I had decided to leave it up as the forecasted wind mph was low enough for several days. Fortunately I was "home" all tucked in my little rig, working on a painting, when the winds started whipping up big time!!
hollered at  called my brother out of his house to help and it was all we could do to hang onto the awning and get it rolled back in without the wind taking it out of our hands. But we managed to get the job done. Whew! That would have been an expensive fix! We were both soaked through, so went in to dry off. After about an hour of torrential downpour, the" R and C River" ran pretty deep right outside my door.
Lesson #9 learned.... Always set up on higher ground.

We had a great day inspite of the weather. A package was brought to their door "Special Delivery" later in the afternoon. I can't wait to show you all..... but I have to (sigh)
Excitement runs high here at the "R and C Ranch" !

I will leave you with this picture of my current painting for now.
'Saguaro at Sunset"
4" x 5"

Have a blessed weekend and enjoy your travels!

  2. ACK, the suspense is killing me!! What is the package??? Glad you got that awning rolled in! Never go off & leave an awning out, even in good weather. You never know when a strange wind will come along to destroy it. (Good thing you were there at the time - whew)

Like the painting! Now...what's in the package....nosey...er..uh, inquiring minds want to know...

  3. Wow! It's been a few years since I've had to fight my awning. Mine is permanently rigged and even in these Texas winds, it rattles and roles, but still going. However, I'm not enjoying the fun of seeing the country either. I'll see if I've got a picture I can post on my blog. Manana ~

  4. We had a freak wind come up when we were camping in Mississippi last year. We actually bent the awning arms hanging on it to keep it from getting ripped away! But no major damage. We just have to be careful rolling the last couple of feet of awning in. So glad you escaped damage, too!

    The saguaros are eerily beautiful!

And yes.... setting up on high ground is smart. :)

  5. Oh yes, how I relate to your "wind & awning" story. Also the sudden rain. On our very first RV journal we were coming down the coast and stopped in an RV park in Oregon. We were sort of in a hole and it rained, and RAINED, and RAINED that night and I just had visions of us being buried in mud up to our hubcaps. It wasn't that bad and we got out the next morning but it taught us to try and stay on higher ground.

  6. I have camped in a typhoon more than once. Just try to get out of a tent when your body is the only thing holding it down, the corners are lifting up around you, and your terrified dog is lying in the middle of your back!

  7. It seems every year we see a rig lose an awning from the wind during a storm. Last year, an older rig with what looked like a brand new expensive awning was across from us and the owners left for the day.

Sure enough a big storm came through and started knocking the awning around so I decided to run over and put it down, it had a locking mechanism on it so I couldn't do anything and then suddenly it was torn off the rig.

I tried to keep it all together but it was too late, it was completely ruined.

The owners came back and they couldn't believe their luck. This had happened just a month prior and yet they still forgot to put the awning in before they left.

My habit is if we leave, the awning goes in, no matter what the weather is like. I even put it in before bed time just in case.

The painting is beautiful! You have a wonderful gift. :)
